Let's Talk
About Football

Baihakki Khaizan

We held an exclusive interview with Singapore’s former football player, Baihakki Khaizan. He answered some of our burning questions and we joined him as he reminisced on some of his greatest moments on the field!

Check out the full interview below!

Q1. What Inspired You To Pursue Football?

"I came from a very difficult childhood and it was not easy.  Every time I came home, I had to tiptoe to go to the kitchen and sleep there. Those moments actually inspire me. If football is the way for me to get out of poverty, then I’ll do it. I didn’t have much choice back then. So I channelled all my energy and hunger to football."

Q2. How Was Your First Game Like?

"I was in Geylang United. It was a club where I grew up playing in their youth system as well. It was a mixed feeling playing for Geylang because that year, 2003, it was the establishment of the Young Lions.  I think about 3-4 of us, we did not manage to get into the Young Lions. So obviously, we felt sad and we took a detour route."

Q3. Advice For People Who Want To Pursue Football?

"Today we have a lot of football academies everywhere and obviously you have to perform, you have to work hard, you have to be noted and you must be seen by someone. It all boils down to hard work and you need to be the one standing out on all occasions. Hard work is number one and especially in football, you need to stay focused and disciplined!"
