The mosque was officially reopened in 2003 after being redeveloped with better facilities. After the upgrading works, there were many sponsors from the mosque's patrons, such as Canadian's Pizza where they were being delivered every Fridays.

There were talks on wanting to upgrade the mosque and discussions on the kind of facilities and improvements that were needed for the new mosque.

Masjid Ahmad was originally a kampung mosque named after Mr Ahmat Yahya, a sailor who provided the land.
